Committee Meeting Minutes Wednesday 29th June 2005

Committee Meeting Minutes
Wednesday 29 June 2005
Present: Maqsood Ahmed, Andy Atkinson, Rob Brown, Gary Cummin, Jonathan Cummin,
Pat Dolan, Julie Downes, Dave Heatherill, Mark Wardell

The Chairman, Rob Brown, opened the meeting at 9.15 p.m. at Whitcliffe Mount Sports Centre.

1. Apologies for absence
Apologies were received from Mal Keilty.

2. Subscriptions
Despite being due since 1 January 2005, 50% of playing members have still not paid their subscriptions. This season the Club has invested in new playing vests home and away for the teams, and it was unanimously carried that players will receive these vests when their subs are paid.

3. Wednesday Night Training
Dave Heatherill raised concerns regarding Wednesday night training. At the moment this session is filled with the fourth division and development players, Dave is concerned that should this training slot be reserved for first team players, then some weeks only two or three players might be in attendance. This would mean that the Club was paying for court time that was not being fully utilised, and also that the players who had been moved to a Sunday session might lose motivation. It was decided in discussion with Pat Dolan, first team coach, that when Wednesday night training reopens on 3 August 2005 there will be an open session for all players for the first two weeks. Following this on 17 August 2005, the first team only and those players selected by the coach during the open sessions will train on Wednesday evenings. This situation will be reviewed at the Committee Meeting of 31 August 2005.

4. Team Structures
Julie Downes reported that the teams and players have now been registered with GBWBA for the coming season. Late registration forms were also received and processed from Pat Dolan, Alan Shorter and Karl Turrell.
It was agreed that when the fixtures are received, Julie Downes and Mark Wardell will share the responsibility for booking venues. It was further agreed that the team coaches will take responsibility for confirming fixtures with their players and identifying any problems with dates at an early stage. These problems will then be reported to either Julie or mark, who will liaise with interested parties in an attempt to resolve the situation.

5. Sunday Morning Training
Sunday morning training will now move to a Sunday morning, 9.30-11.00 a.m. The fourth division and development players to use this session if they are not selected by Pat Dolan for Wednesday night training. Andy Atkinson to update website.

6. Tennis Tournament
Max Ahmed confirmed that the tournament is now organised. The trophies are ordered, the courts are booked, catering issues are resolved, we have been able to reach agreement that the Club may have the use of the kitchen. Gary Cummin and Andy Atkinson are to look in to the possibility of arranging a free DJ. 18 players have registered to date.

7. Rugby Event
In Mal keilty’s absence, Dave Heatherill updated members on developments with regard to the rugby league tournament. Training will take place on 13 July 2005 at Whitcliffe Mount, 8.00-9.30pm, all members are encouraged to participate. The games themselves will take place on 20 or 21 July 2005, venue to be confirmed, and on 23 July 2005 at North Bridge Leisure Centre. There is also the possibility that there could be some basketball games on 23 July 2005 at North Bridge as part of the event. Mal will confirm further details through the post.

8. Any Other Items
The issue of Table Officials was raised by Julie Downes. Julie will not be available to table official during the coming season. Mark Wardell will continue to table official when he can, bearing in mind his commitments to one of the two fourth division teams. Dave Heatherill underlined the fact that should anyone be interested in training to be a table official, then the Club will pay for this. Andy Atkinson to post a notice on the website to this effect. Anyone interested in volunteering should contact Mark Wardell in the first instance.

Andy Atkinson updated the meeting with regard to participation in the West Yorkshire Youth Games. Players from the Cardinals gave a demonstration of wheelchair basketball, spectators dropped in throughout the day. Andy felt that the team were well received.

The Meeting Closed at 10.00pm.The next Meeting will be held at Whitcliffe Mount on Wednesday 31 August 2005.
